Oh no! Here we go again!

I swore I was done with GHQ (It's a long story)...  but I got one of those darn "Summer Sale" post cards in the mail this weekend and then stumbled upon some of my painting from a previous life.  I'm still amazed at how much detail can be packed into those little dime sized miniatures (1/285th scale).  If you haven't seen GHQ miniatures before, I encourage you to at least take a look at them and admire their detail.  Their website isn't quite up to today's standards and some of the pictures on the site are poor quality, but I assure you the miniatures are little works of art, even in their raw pewter state.

At any rate, in a moment of weakness this weekend I splurged and bought a couple packs (ok, ok, I actually bought several packs).  I'm going to try putting together a SMALL and LIMITED Eastern Front Scenario and paint up a few units.  In the mean time, here are a few pictures of GHQ miniatures I painted a year or two ago.  Enjoy!

  1. I really admire your work in this scale, but I really hope you will get back to your 1/72nd scale work too.

  5. I hate the spam newsletters GHQ sends me via email. Even when I do the unsubscribe process they keep sending them to me.

  6. Thanks guys! I plan to embrace my recurring addiction to some degree AND continue painting 1/72nd... we'll see how that works out :)

  8. I learned about GHQ just a few weeks ago, when one of our forum members showed a raw, unpainted Panther.

  12. Sick :)

How do you do that? With an airbrush. Mine look okay, but your stuff is tremendous.

  13. do you use vallejo paints?? also do you add white for the smaller scale?

  14. Yep, Vallejo is pretty much all I use. I also add white for almost all scales... the only time I paint straight from the bottle is for the undercoat/basecoat.

  16. I've used a lot of different airbrushes over the last few years - Iwata Custom Micron, Iwata HP-B and C, Testors Aztek, H&S Infinity, Badger Revolution, Master (cheap copy from China), and Iwata Eclipse.

I've been able to achieve great results with all of them to be honest. Eventually I've settled back with the Iwata Eclipse. The reason: it's fairly inexpensive, it's reliable, and most importantly the replacement parts are available locally and don't cost an arm and a leg.

The only advice I'd give is to stay away from Iwata Custom Micron. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice airbrush but when it comes to miniature painting you can achieve similar results with the Eclipse - and it's 4-5 times cheaper. Also, I bent a needle and a nozzle on my Micron and it cost more to get replacements than a whole new Eclipse on Amazon.

    Hope that helps,
    Tanner
